Old fashioned quality - Hand bound in rich leather

During my years of writing and publishing, I was often disappointed in the quality received from commercial binderies. Consequently, I traveled to Telluride, Colorado, to study the fine art of French bookbinding from Tini Muiri, a master bookbinder with worldwide recognition. She is an artist! She has 60 steps to her process. I've simplified it to about eight steps to lessen the time expenditure in order to keep the book price lower.

Using 24 lb, 94 bright, acid free paper, I run the books on my copier. I cut them to size with a commercial cutter I have, then, putting them in presses I made myself, I bind them with upholstery thread (strong), artificial sinew (very strong!), and Fiebing's polyvinyl leather glue. It is compatible with paper and makes a strong flexible spine. I use premium upholstery leather, cut it to size, hot foil the titles on, and attach them to the book. The process takes a couple days because I let the glue dry twice -once on the spine, then later on the cover. My wife, Donna, helps a lot.

The end product is a one-of-a-kind edition richly bound in leather, with excellent durability and western flair. A special color can be chosen, based on availability. Matched sets make wonderful gifts for friends and loved ones.

A pamphlet on bookbinding is available for $5.00. All items may be purchased by mail, email, or phone.
